Marin Parr Photography

Martin Parr has his own blog. The web address being http://www.martinparr.com/blog/. I like this because it gives me different ideas to how to could present my blog - also it shows he is a modern photographer coming to terms with modern technology.

This image catches my eye because it so quirky and different. It uses the rule of thirds and has been composed to capture the movement of the sea gulls and the chips - also of the flag in the background. This is so British because of the flags chips and sea gulls.

I included this image because it made me laugh - How in the perspective of other people British people are perceived as tourist makers and not the brightest - looking away from the main attraction taking picture of something stupid. The humour is captured well in this image just by the model, the action she is doing and the fashion she is wearing.

When you think of British summers, you think of maybe not the sunniest places but people still go down to the beach and normally is the whole family. The depth of field in this image is very clear as you can see the pier. The pier works as a leading line drawing you eye into the picture.

Martin Parr photographed some of the Royal Wedding street parties that went on. This is why I was drawn to him - he is quirky but also is involved with my theme. He done some of them in a normal way. The table in the middle of the picture leads as a leading line drawing the onlookers eye into the centre of the image where it is busiest.

This was an image which personally I don't like the look of however I like the way it was composed and it done with all the cakes in a pile with different tops on. There isn't much composition to this image. If i was to recreate this I would change the topping and I would get ride if the big of window at the top right hand corner.

This image made me smile because no matter how old you are, it bring you back to the time when you were a child and had your face painted. If I was to recreate this I would put the depth of Field out of focus and bring the colours up more, so they stand out more.

This image once again incorporates the humour of Martin Parr. This image has an element of the British society which I hadn't thought about incorporating into my image (the England football top).

Tea party combined royal wedding

This is one of my ideas, which combine two of my themes into one stronger theme.

This is one of the strongest images combining tea parties and the royal wedding. The reason why this screams society to me is because of the British flags and the British flag bunting. The one things about the composition of this image which I don't like is how there is no people incorporated into it. It looks empty. However I could take this idea and play with it (the idea of having no people in it) because I can't always rely on people being in a place and being free at a certain time.

This image is another one of ideas to do with this theme because of how it is composed. How you can't see the table or people. I would try to recreate this with a different twist by changing the things in it - cup cakes and tea cups ect. I like this because you don't need anyone to be in it and it's not the normal picture of a tea party.

This image is composed of all the elements you would think of when you think of a British tea party. Bunting, tea pots ( in the background - done in a quirky way) tea cups, sandwiches and ketchup. These are the elements which I want to include in my images.

This image caught my eye, because it is a collage of different images, with the British Flag behind. I could use this idea with the idea of the tea party - so the royal side came from the flag and I could include different images in different styles.

I liked this image because it has incorporated something new into it - tiaras, in the colours of the British flag; however there is a tea cup behind which is the white. I like how there is two but the second one is out of focus because of the depth of field.

Teenagers rebelling.

This idea is about how teenagers today, are perceived as rebelling again society. This is done through many ways which I could capture with a camera.

The first is by the amount they are drinking and how teenagers are getting drunk. This image was the one that inspired me, how there is one main colour and how the person is in Shadow. I like the idea of having one main colour and the background being out of focus.

This relates to the idea that teenagers are rebelling and smoking more. There are many different images I could do with this idea, for example the one I have picked out where you cant actually see the person you can see the cigarette and the mouth.

Teenagers apparently do drugs. There are many ways I could signify this - the first being like the example and not having an actual person in the image, otherwise I could have a teenager taking the pills.

This image could my eye because it is like colleague however it is done in a different way because it is all in one image. I like this idea because it is different and the person has thought out of the box.

Olyimpics!

Because this year, the UK is holding the Olympics, I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate it into my project somehow because there will be so much coverage on it and there will be so much about it and it will be such a big part of our society.

The way that I was going to go about doing this idea is by using the colours and the logo (above) and the rings. This is because by the time the Olympics would be on this project would have been finished. This was the image which sparked this idea and it is so different it works really well.

Another idea was to use the colours of gold, silver and bronze, which is 1st 2nd and third place. This would tie into the Olympics however it would be very difficult for it to come across like that and that it is linked.

The final idea to do with my Olympics these is to do something with a torch and a flame. This I feel is my strongest idea. I could tie this in with the colours of the logo and changed the colours of the flame. This would them be a stronger message about the Olympics.

Royalist

This idea is to incorporate the royalists somewhere in my project because they are such a big part of our society. There is a huge problem with this idea ever before I start - how can I take a photo of The Queen?

This captures two of the royal family and looks really casual. However like I said before my problem is how can I capture them?

My second idea on this topic was to get somebody to dress up as either the queen or some part of the royal family. This could be done with some props and the fashion they wear. Also via the place they are situated would give a lot away. If I found somewhere that was "fancy" then it would add a lot to the composition of the image,

My other idea was to buy things which resemble the royalists, for example the gnomes. Then I could change the depth of field and out them in different places to see what happens and what works. This would be  easier however still as effective.

Another idea was to use props which represent the royalists and stick them in different situations and see what happens. These props could be jewels, crowns ect.

I included this image because it is quirky and different and this is the style I am trying to go for. It shows thinking out side of the box. It is also a very good idea that a stamp represents royalists.

Tea Party

This idea is to do a photo shot of a tea party, with any aged people (generally younger kids or a family.)

This image has inspired me because of the colleague of images and how they have all been put together. This would be a good idea of how the present my final piece and it could work in a sequence, with one another. The impact of different shots work well and complements each other because they are all so different. There are so many different composition rules in each photo; no one just stays to one, which makes it interesting to look at.

This image has used the rule of thirds, however to a subtle way. The colours used are very vibrant, which leads to the contrasting of them and making them stand out against the other colours. The disadvantage of the image is the way it is composed (the camera angle), it's very bland and bog standard, nothing interesting and doesn't add anything to this image, apart from detracting.

The mood of this image makes the onlooker feel happy, as they are too young girls, acting as if they are grown up. The fashion in this photo complements the flowers on the table. The colours are quite dull and plain however they compliment each other and stand out. In the background the lines compliment the vertical times of everything else in the picture.

This idea was to use scales and proportions. Use tea cups rides and kids in them. This would be difficult because I would have to find a place where they have tea cup rides, at the end of winter - nowhere.

This photo caught my eye because of the depth used in it. How there is the tea pot in focus and the cup of tea is out of focus. I dislike the idea of having the handle of the tea cup in the side of the picture as it detracts from the focus on the cup of tea. The white of the tea pot brings out the other colours and makes them stand out a lot more, drawing the focus to them.

The pink of the table cloth compliments the white of the tea pot making it brighter. Personally the composition doesn't work for me, it look like it hasn't been planned, and there isn't really an order to it. If i was to recreate this then I would change the layout of the table.

My ideas.

This idea is to do with, royalist (the red white and blue), also a tea party as it is very British. The reason why I want to focus on this idea is because we are the only country to still have our royal family - however I know it is near impossible to be able to get a picture of the Queen.

This idea is to many focus on the colours red white and blue, as these are the colours of the British Flag. Our flag stands out so much and relates back to our country and our society. People who live here should be proud of it.

This relates back to society and the way people vandalise and destroy the place we live in. This happens a lot around different places, and has many different versions such as, graffiti, gum on streets, broken equipment, broken glass, litter, beer bottles / cans, egging and toilet rolls.
I have chosen this image because it shows society. My idea in conjunction with this image is, the idea of a gun, and how society is rebelling against the rules and government plans. Also the reason why this idea has inspired me is because it is a different era and how society has changed/ how it back then.

One aspect of society which I appreciate and is a big part is the navel services. The do so much for this country and our society I would like to find a way to incorporate this into an image and show the straights of them.
This image has lead me to the idea that I could combine the idea of the navy and the British flag / something British to describe society. This would be a very strong aspect because they are so involved in our society. This would be difficult to do because even though I know a couple of people from the navy I would have to photo shoot them all at a time when they were back. I know it doesn't have to be people from the navy however I would still need their uniform to be able to do this.
As well to go along side the navy, I could photography people from the army. This would be a lot more difficult because I don't know many people from the army. However it would be a strong point if I had them separately or even together with people from the navy - so it would be both services together.
This idea would be very difficult to produce in a way. The idea of a wedding and a wedding service is very big in our society, a lot of money is spent on it and it is a big day and a big celebration. This isn't directly relating to our society however it is in an insignificant way.
This idea is to do with our royal family. As we are the only country to still have our royal family, and appreciate them so much. They are a huge part of our society and make up a lot of the positives of our country. The disadvantage with doing this is I wouldn't be able to photograph The Queen as I wouldn't ever be able to see her (especially in a room like the one in the image chosen!

This image has lead to see the rebellion of society today and how people are perceive in society. The idea would be to get a police man/ door man involved and a teenager to rebel and to be able to capture that moment in an image. This would be easily done as I could get the doorman down work to do it. It would be a very strong image and notion of society today in a negative way.

Society today is shown as smokers (mainly teenagers.) This would be easy to capture however I could play around with the depth of field and change it to make it my own style and different to create it more interesting.

This image is hard hitting. How our society is eating a lot more junk food at a younger age than before. I like the idea here where they have used a baby doll instead of an actual child to have a greater impact. Society are also becoming bigger and more obese (I could easily photograph this.)

Our society at the moment is an ageing population. This would be good to capture and I could try a lot of different camera shots, such as not capturing the persons face and just an aspect of their body, such as my example image has done. I could also show the caring society trying to help.

A very English tradition is to have country fairs, and maypole dancing ect. This would be good to capture because these happen a lot on the Isle of Wight. However they happen more in may (which is when this project is due by.)

A cup of tea is very English and I could put a twist on it / capture it differently to everyone else, so it's not just the bog standard cup with sourer, such as the example. I could change the depth of field and make it a bolder picture.

This relates back to my idea of capturing a tea party; however it in incorporating the idea of rebellion and making it have a twist. I feel this is my strongest idea, and would be a lot of fun to do. Also the fashion in this picture I could use, and the props such as fans.
