Different ways I could edit my pictures.

This is the original image which I am going to show you many different way for editing. The reason why I have chosen this one is because it has different textures, the bubbles and the grass, and is one of my favourite ones from the shoot.
Here I have made the image black and white, to then increase the contrast and added in the inc outline to give the grass and bubbles a bit more texture and make them stand out more.

With this image I have given it an orange tint, to give it an old feel too it. This is very subtle and delicate. I works lovely with the tea pot and tea cup because it makes them look older than what they are however it has made the grass look dead and dull.

I have increased the contrasts from the image above. This was to bring out the colours in the tea pot and tea cup. Also this then darkens the back so that the white of the tea set is the main focus.

Here I have added highlight and different lighting patterns to the image. I did this on photo shop. This is to draw more of the attention to the tea set rather than the background. This really gives the bubbles texture and makes them the main focus as its different. They are emphasised because the liquid underneath is a dark colour and the bubbles on top are light.

Here I have added in a lighting effect on photo shop. I aimed it for the centre to draw attention to the tea set, to lighten the bubbles and darken the background. This one is slightly too harsh as you can see the complete circle it gives.

I was trying different effects on photo shop to see what worked and I found a lens flare - photo shop. I added this onto the tea pot because it's the most likely of places that it would be. This also lightens up the bubbles, to highlight them.

I was trying different seized lens flares to see what worked or what it looked like. This one is too big however it was worth a try.

Here I have changed the image to sepia. I did this to the original photo. I prefer the image with the orange ting, makes it look older than this image.

Here I have added in a lighting effect to the image above, however I don't like it because you start to lose the pattern on the tea pot because it makes everything too light.

My third idea.

My third photo shoot idea, consists of my photo two photo shoots added together. My final idea is to have teenagers drinking with bottles however in the situation of a tea party. I want this idea to be unique, and hopefully it will come across within my photos, of a strong message. This will be the first of two photo shoots; one will be an improvement on this and my final one.
I have an idea in my head of how I want this to turn out and hopefully it will come across in my images.

My second idea

My second idea, is to have a normal tea party, however have teenagers instead of kids. I have two locations for this and I am not to sure which one will work best. The first location is down where I work - as we do a lot of kids parties and have to correct sort of area, and background, to make the image unique. The second location is outside in my garden, this could be the perfect backdrop, and make it look like a normal tea party would. I want to have the tables set out as they were in the first photo shoot - which all the tea cups, cakes balloons ect. I have taken my idea from the work of Marin Parr and capture different photos of different activities which would happen throughout the day. For example face painting, eating, games, ect.
This is the photo I have taken as inspiration however I want it to be plainer and just to be two people, using different levels, by having one sat down and one stood up.

My first idea

The first idea which I want to take relating back to my topic of portraying society, I want to be very simple although I want to  try to convey a bold message. I want to use many props, however not all in the same image. In this photo shoot I aim to use no models and focus mainly on the props.
The list of props I want to try and use are:
  • Tea cups
  • Mugs
  • Tea Pots
  • Jars
  • Place Mats (all 5 trying to relate to the British flag or something relating back to society.)
  • Cakes
  • Sandwiches
  • Cake Stands
  • Balloons (red, white, blue.)
  • Bunting (either the colour of the British Flag or of the British Flag.)
  • The British Flag
  • Ribbon
  • Flowers

My inspiration has come from these images:

I am hoping to try to recreate something along these lines, however put my own twist on it, and make them original.

Tea party, rebellion, and royalists.

This idea is to combine all three ideas together (a tea party, rebellion, and the idea of royalists.) Like before I want to have teenagers at a tea party but drinking alcohol, but having royalist things such as bunting and mugs with the flag on. Once again I have tried to find images to explain this idea - but by the looks of it no one has done it before (which is always positive because it means it is original.)

Tea party and rebellion

Another idea of mine is to combine the idea of a tea party with the idea of teenager's rebellion. I have tried to find images to explain this idea - but by the looks of it no one has done it before (which is always positive because it means it is original). This idea is to have a tea party set up and get my friends who would be teenagers to sit down at this tea party, but have beer and vodka instead. I have an idea in my head of what this should look like and if it works it will look really effective. There will be a photo shoot of this idea to follow.

Robert Frank

Robert Frank has captured the way society used to be. This is a good idea and could be done through using black and white imagery and even film cameras.

This image has used lines to draw the onlooker's eye into the image. By using both horizontal and vertical lines it sections to the picture up - and obviously he has used the rule of thirds, when using this many lines. The only things which personally I feel doesn't work are the peoples face - out of focus.

There is a repetition throughout all the Robert Franks pictures and that  is that he uses lines to draw people attention. The lines used in this one are the horizontal ones of the bench. The two people look awkward as the way they are composed to be sitting looking away, and the white of her dress stands out against the black of his suit.

This image was a very bold statement back then, because the colour of the woman's skin and the colour of the baby skin - this shows how much society has changed and I could incorporate that into an image how nowadays its fine to be different coloured skin and be together.

This image is quirky because the top of the instrument is where his head should be. This is about society because by the use of the flag at the top of the image. The aspect of this image I don't like is how you can see two arms in either side of the image. This draws attention from the main focus. The white of the jacket contrast the darkness of the image. There isn't really a range of tones used which is better. However you can see there is texture to the wall as it is all granular.

This represents society by having the American flag at the top. Once again in this image - you can't see the models heads. This is obviously Robert Frank's style and it would be fun to recreate. The use of tones in the wall show texture  and give it a 3D dimension.

William Klein

This photo frames an image of society, which portrays violence and anger. Having the gun in the foreground however slightly out of focus bring the attention to it. As well having it in line with the face means you see the face as well - which draws attention to the facial expressions showing the anger in society and in people. The age of you other kid, shows the violence doesn't matter what age you are.

This is the edited image of the one above. I personally feel this is a bigger impact for the reader as the red draws the attention in. Also where it is a montage of many images, it shows more than one perspective. I am going to try and recreate this by trying this editing skills and the idea of a montage. I will also try to recreate the idea of having a gun and facial

This portrays society without the use of people and models. This is always helpful - because if I want to recreate it I don't need to plan with people and see what they are free. This image uses the rule of thirds, and I love the idea of how it is in black and white. I want to try and use a film camera to recreate this.

Marin Parr Photography

Martin Parr has his own blog. The web address being http://www.martinparr.com/blog/. I like this because it gives me different ideas to how to could present my blog - also it shows he is a modern photographer coming to terms with modern technology.

This image catches my eye because it so quirky and different. It uses the rule of thirds and has been composed to capture the movement of the sea gulls and the chips - also of the flag in the background. This is so British because of the flags chips and sea gulls.

I included this image because it made me laugh - How in the perspective of other people British people are perceived as tourist makers and not the brightest - looking away from the main attraction taking picture of something stupid. The humour is captured well in this image just by the model, the action she is doing and the fashion she is wearing.

When you think of British summers, you think of maybe not the sunniest places but people still go down to the beach and normally is the whole family. The depth of field in this image is very clear as you can see the pier. The pier works as a leading line drawing you eye into the picture.

Martin Parr photographed some of the Royal Wedding street parties that went on. This is why I was drawn to him - he is quirky but also is involved with my theme. He done some of them in a normal way. The table in the middle of the picture leads as a leading line drawing the onlookers eye into the centre of the image where it is busiest.

This was an image which personally I don't like the look of however I like the way it was composed and it done with all the cakes in a pile with different tops on. There isn't much composition to this image. If i was to recreate this I would change the topping and I would get ride if the big of window at the top right hand corner.

This image made me smile because no matter how old you are, it bring you back to the time when you were a child and had your face painted. If I was to recreate this I would put the depth of Field out of focus and bring the colours up more, so they stand out more.

This image once again incorporates the humour of Martin Parr. This image has an element of the British society which I hadn't thought about incorporating into my image (the England football top).

Tea party combined royal wedding

This is one of my ideas, which combine two of my themes into one stronger theme.

This is one of the strongest images combining tea parties and the royal wedding. The reason why this screams society to me is because of the British flags and the British flag bunting. The one things about the composition of this image which I don't like is how there is no people incorporated into it. It looks empty. However I could take this idea and play with it (the idea of having no people in it) because I can't always rely on people being in a place and being free at a certain time.

This image is another one of ideas to do with this theme because of how it is composed. How you can't see the table or people. I would try to recreate this with a different twist by changing the things in it - cup cakes and tea cups ect. I like this because you don't need anyone to be in it and it's not the normal picture of a tea party.

This image is composed of all the elements you would think of when you think of a British tea party. Bunting, tea pots ( in the background - done in a quirky way) tea cups, sandwiches and ketchup. These are the elements which I want to include in my images.

This image caught my eye, because it is a collage of different images, with the British Flag behind. I could use this idea with the idea of the tea party - so the royal side came from the flag and I could include different images in different styles.

I liked this image because it has incorporated something new into it - tiaras, in the colours of the British flag; however there is a tea cup behind which is the white. I like how there is two but the second one is out of focus because of the depth of field.

Teenagers rebelling.

This idea is about how teenagers today, are perceived as rebelling again society. This is done through many ways which I could capture with a camera.

The first is by the amount they are drinking and how teenagers are getting drunk. This image was the one that inspired me, how there is one main colour and how the person is in Shadow. I like the idea of having one main colour and the background being out of focus.

This relates to the idea that teenagers are rebelling and smoking more. There are many different images I could do with this idea, for example the one I have picked out where you cant actually see the person you can see the cigarette and the mouth.

Teenagers apparently do drugs. There are many ways I could signify this - the first being like the example and not having an actual person in the image, otherwise I could have a teenager taking the pills.

This image could my eye because it is like colleague however it is done in a different way because it is all in one image. I like this idea because it is different and the person has thought out of the box.

Olyimpics!

Because this year, the UK is holding the Olympics, I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate it into my project somehow because there will be so much coverage on it and there will be so much about it and it will be such a big part of our society.

The way that I was going to go about doing this idea is by using the colours and the logo (above) and the rings. This is because by the time the Olympics would be on this project would have been finished. This was the image which sparked this idea and it is so different it works really well.

Another idea was to use the colours of gold, silver and bronze, which is 1st 2nd and third place. This would tie into the Olympics however it would be very difficult for it to come across like that and that it is linked.

The final idea to do with my Olympics these is to do something with a torch and a flame. This I feel is my strongest idea. I could tie this in with the colours of the logo and changed the colours of the flame. This would them be a stronger message about the Olympics.

Royalist

This idea is to incorporate the royalists somewhere in my project because they are such a big part of our society. There is a huge problem with this idea ever before I start - how can I take a photo of The Queen?

This captures two of the royal family and looks really casual. However like I said before my problem is how can I capture them?

My second idea on this topic was to get somebody to dress up as either the queen or some part of the royal family. This could be done with some props and the fashion they wear. Also via the place they are situated would give a lot away. If I found somewhere that was "fancy" then it would add a lot to the composition of the image,

My other idea was to buy things which resemble the royalists, for example the gnomes. Then I could change the depth of field and out them in different places to see what happens and what works. This would be  easier however still as effective.

Another idea was to use props which represent the royalists and stick them in different situations and see what happens. These props could be jewels, crowns ect.

I included this image because it is quirky and different and this is the style I am trying to go for. It shows thinking out side of the box. It is also a very good idea that a stamp represents royalists.

Tea Party

This idea is to do a photo shot of a tea party, with any aged people (generally younger kids or a family.)

This image has inspired me because of the colleague of images and how they have all been put together. This would be a good idea of how the present my final piece and it could work in a sequence, with one another. The impact of different shots work well and complements each other because they are all so different. There are so many different composition rules in each photo; no one just stays to one, which makes it interesting to look at.

This image has used the rule of thirds, however to a subtle way. The colours used are very vibrant, which leads to the contrasting of them and making them stand out against the other colours. The disadvantage of the image is the way it is composed (the camera angle), it's very bland and bog standard, nothing interesting and doesn't add anything to this image, apart from detracting.

The mood of this image makes the onlooker feel happy, as they are too young girls, acting as if they are grown up. The fashion in this photo complements the flowers on the table. The colours are quite dull and plain however they compliment each other and stand out. In the background the lines compliment the vertical times of everything else in the picture.

This idea was to use scales and proportions. Use tea cups rides and kids in them. This would be difficult because I would have to find a place where they have tea cup rides, at the end of winter - nowhere.

This photo caught my eye because of the depth used in it. How there is the tea pot in focus and the cup of tea is out of focus. I dislike the idea of having the handle of the tea cup in the side of the picture as it detracts from the focus on the cup of tea. The white of the tea pot brings out the other colours and makes them stand out a lot more, drawing the focus to them.

The pink of the table cloth compliments the white of the tea pot making it brighter. Personally the composition doesn't work for me, it look like it hasn't been planned, and there isn't really an order to it. If i was to recreate this then I would change the layout of the table.
